Our Origin Story
Founded in 2015, Japanese Green Tea Co. was born from a passion to spread the joy of premium Japanese green tea to the rest of the world. We proudly partnered with Arahataen for the exclusive rights to bring their unique green tea outside of Japan.
Arahataen is based in Shizuoka, one of the most prominent tea regions in Japan, renowned for its exceptional tea due to its perfect climate. Arahataen tea plantation uses traditional Chagabusa farming methods, combined with refined steaming techniques and innovative soil science—to yield some of the finest green tea in the world. Before our partnership, this limited product was only enjoyed in Japan. Now, for the first time, the rest of the world can enjoy traditional Japanese green tea.

The Global Tea Championship™ is an independent competition, judged by tea professionals to distinguish the highest quality & best-tasting teas commercially available in the world. Arahataen Green Tea has won the Global World Tea Championship three years in a row, from 2017 to 2019*. Our green tea was the winner in two categories, loose-leaf steamed green tea & matcha.

Green Tea Merchant is a legend in the international green tea providers, as they were the first company to put Japanese wholesale green tea on the internet in the early 2000’s—before anyone else in the industry. Mr. Kent, the original owner of Green Tea Merchant nurtured many great international relationships that paved the way for distribution.
Green Tea Merchant provided exceptionally high-quality green tea, which aligned perfectly with our pursuit to bring the best of premium Japanese green tea to the rest of the world. We are very honored to be able to continue Mr. Kent’s and Green Tea Merchant's legacy for the new generations!
Our Expansion
After so much success with bringing premium Japanese Green Tea to the world, we discovered through an April fools joke an equal demand to bring Japan's superb underground Sumiyaki coffee abroad too. In alignment with our sister company, we called this company Japanese Coffee Co.
